North Sand Mountain completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region seven, the Bison earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. North Sand Mountain's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lexington by a score of 25-14. The Bison had some tough luck last season as four of their five losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, North Sand Mountain has gone a combined 44-33. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 3A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, North Sand Mountain has managed to compile a record of 107-161. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 3A and 282nd in the AHSAA. The Bison are led by head coach Keith Kirby who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at North Sand Mountain. Under his direction the Bison have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Kirby. Coach Kirby's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 6-5 (54.5%). The North Sand Mountain Bison will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2017 season. The Bison will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region seven this season. The defense returns Senior DE Cody Shrader who registered 5 sacks for 34 yards in losses last season. The defense also returns Senior middle linebacker Nelson Poore who got in on 82 tackles last season. The Bison open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Dade County GA on Friday, August 25 at Lloyds Dobbins Field. North Sand Mountain and Dade County GA have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Bison have a 6-7-0 record against Dade County GA.
